Rev. Garin Hill

Rev. Garin Hill

joined the pastoral staff at FBC Forest City in 2015 after serving for more than 15 years in various ministry opportunities and contexts. Born and raised in a small town in Southwest Virginia, he is familiar with what it means to be a part of rural, FBC congregation. After graduating high school in Gate City, VA, Garin majored in Religious Studies at Carson-Newman College (now University).

Subsequently, he headed west to Waco, TX, to attend Baylor University’s George W. Truett Theological Seminary where he earned an M.Div. with a specialty in education. Ultimately, Garin and his family moved back East to North Carolina, where he has since served as an associate pastor at FBC Burlington, and then pastor of Sandy Plains Baptist Church in Shelby–just down the road in Cleveland County. In 2015, Garin earned his Doctor of Ministry degree from the Gardner-Webb School of Divinity.
Undoubtedly, the most important part of his time in Texas is not the degree he earned, but it was meeting his wife, formerly Ms. Rachel Hunt of Arlington, TX. Now she is Rev. Rachel Hunt Hill of Forest City, and she serves as the Director of Supportive Services at Hospice in Cleveland County. Garin and Rachel have two sons, Isaac and Eli, who bring love and LOTS of energy every place they go. They are smart and funny, creative and caring, and they constantly help their parents see the inherent mystery and beauty of everyday life.
What does Garin like and enjoy doing? Frankly, that’s hard to narrow down. Garin loves sports of all kind, hanging out with his sons, relaxing with his wife, strategy games, homemade ice cream and chocolate chip cookies, exercising enough to be able to eat copious amounts of homemade ice cream and chocolate chip cookies, and saving the best for last (among many other things). Garin really likes it when people ask hard questions, and he gets even more excited when those hard questions drive those folks to deeper faith. He enjoys the opportunity to journey with this group of believers in Forest City and is grateful to work with God in this place to renew the world.
